  • Apples are a source of fiber; baking makes them spoon-soft.
  • Walnuts are among the richest nuts in omega-3 fats.
  • Plain yogurt brings protein and live cultures.
  • Sweetened with maple syrup and nothing else.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F / 190°C.
  2. Set the apple halves cut-side up in a baking dish. Brush with the butter, drizzle with the maple, dust with cinnamon and salt.
  3. Pour a small splash of water into the dish. Bake 25–30 minutes, until a knife slides in with no argument.
  4. Serve warm over the yogurt, walnuts on top, the syrupy pan juices spooned over everything.
Worth knowing. The baked apples keep four days; cold from the fridge over yogurt is a legitimate breakfast.
